Apple Updates Final Cut Pro, Motion, and Compressor

Posted on by Larry

This afternoon (Tuesday) Apple updated all three of its professional video applications. While most of the fixes are in the “performance and stability” category, a few new features are worth mentioning:

All updates are free and available through the Mac App Store.

As a note, there has been a significant bug which prevents many third-party plug-in developers from porting their software to FCP X. I’m checking with my contacts to see if this bug has been resolved with this update.

Here are the full release notes.

Though it came two weeks later than I expected, this is the stability/performance update I anticipated- so until Apple changes it’s tune, it’s best to expect a feature/bug/feature release pattern from here forward. Which means we should expect another big release in early July.

I was sort of hoping that one of your “big four” NAB product announcements you hinted at in your newsletter was going to be FCPX related. But with this 10.0.4 release, my expectations have dimmed for the time being.

That said, with Broadcast monitoring seemingly much more stable under 10.0.4, I can see myself moving more of my projects over to X.

Using X after a long abstinence two updates later seemed to have got an old project running without crashing not sure what they fixed but glad they fixed it… That share option sounds great tho. Can it be to multiple iOS devices or just one at a time?

      Jayson:

What Share does is create a file – export – that can be played / uploaded / saved for a variety of devices. Think of this as “exporting and publishing,” rather than networking.

Did this update break third-party plug-ins that were already working? If so, not sure I want to upgrade yet.

I believe it’s confirmed that it breaks some compatibility with Red Giant and Genarts plugins. http://www.redgiantsoftware.com/blog/2012/04/11/do-not-update-to-fcpx-10-0-4-yet/

    Larry,

There is some kind of bug with plugins/filters.
I made some time ago a TimeCode Reader plugin (based on a Motion filter).
Since this update it reads sequence timecode instead of clip timecode. I tried to re-export it from Motion, but the problem is still there.

Looks like Magic Bullet Looks is fixed now.
