Chris Roberts first alerted me to this issue. When using Compressor on Final Cut Pro 7 and multiple users are using the same computer using different log-ins, if editor one submits a batch through Compressor, waits for the job to finish, then logs out, when the second editor logs in and submits a job to Compressor, they will get a “Share Failure” error.
This error is caused by Compressor not understanding that a different user has logged in.
There are two solutions:
1. After the first editor is done, restart your system and log in as a new user. The restart reset everything so it works properly.
2. As Jonathan Eric Tyrrell pointed out to Chris, a second workaround is that when the second editor has logged in and submitted a job, they are prompted to Reset Compressor.
Resetting Compressor in this dialog also fixes this problem.
For my part, I run into this error several times a week. I’ve just gotten into the habit of restarting each time an editor logs out at the end of their shift.
