You can also transfer mov files from iPhone to Mac without needing to use a cable, using the AirDrop app in both devices. Have to open AirDrop on both the Mac and the phone. AirDrop is in the drop down window under GO on the Mac. (This may only work with iPhones.) Then find AirDrop in Settings of the iPhone, the to General, and make sure that AirDrop is turned on.
Then select the file in the phone and prompt it to select the Mac icon in the AirDrop window. It will transfer to your Downloads folder…kinda slow but does happen.

You are correct. Both work. I like the security, flexibility and speed in using Preview, however.

My mistake! I didn’t actually watch the video clip. My apologies.
That’s great!
However, I frequently have to ask non-tech (video or computer!) folk to “send” me material shot on their smartphones (and I’ve given up trying to get landscape mode clip…sigh).
If you want make a hit, create a quick video on how to transfer files from your phone to your computer, both iOS and Android and PC and Mac (4 combinations by my count). Or, show how to send those clips via the interwebs without destroying data caps directly from your iOS or Android device.
Then add instructions on how to transfer multi-hundred MB clips via the internet. Email doesn’t work, uploading to Google Drive or Dropbox requires someone to actually know how to use those tools, and the various “free transfer” products are also challenging to find and use.
It is a freakin’ nightmare! LOLOL Help!
If anybody can do it, you can! (Sorry about the manipulation, but I couldn’t help myself! I’m frantic! LOLOL)
