Watching video compress is just like watching paint dry – only more boring. Faster is ALWAYS better; provided you don’t lower the image quality.
In this step-by-step video tutorial, hosted by Larry Jordan, learn how to speed Apple’s Compressor 4 by creating a processor cluster on your compression system. Clusters have a checkered past in Compressor. Sometimes they work, sometimes they don’t. While setting up a cluster to combine several machines into a single compression system is often problematic, this simple processor cluster has the potential to cut your compression time in half.
Watch the tutorial below, then test the results for yourself.

Hello, helpful video! Do you know how to create a cluster in the latest version of compressor. Thanks!
Alex:
Yes, but… I’ve found them of very limited value. Compression clusters are only helpful if all your assets are on a server which is accessible from each computer in the cluster. And, even then, if you are creating H.264 media, the hardware acceleration that single pass compression provides is FAR!!! faster than any computer cluster implemented in Compressor.
