DESCRIPTION
This session is different from most of our events. Here, I show how I cut an interview featuring a guest, B-roll, and titles. Along the way, I’ll provide tips that can help you become a faster editor, but this session looks more at story-building than technology.
A few years ago, I had the pleasure of interviewing Dr. Vint Cerf, one of the pioneer scientists of the Internet, and we got to talking about the “interstellar Internet;” specifically, how JPL was modifying the Internet to support missions to Mars. I thought that would be a fun interview to edit this week using Final Cut Pro X.
I start by reviewing the clips, marking them with keywords and favorites, and deciding the best shot order. After that, I edit the clips to the Timeline using the mouse, buttons, and keyboard shortcuts; followed by trimming edit points using both the Precision Editor and manual adjustments. Next is adding B-roll featuring NASA movies, and transitions. At the end, we wrap this into a nice package using some of the built-in titles from Final Cut Pro X.
